The accused husband, who shot his wife dead in broad daylight on a busy street in Gwalior last week, showed no remorse during interrogation and said he regretted only that she did not die in front of him and claimed he would have felt relieved if she had.

A 33-year-old contractor, identified as Arvind Parihar, gunned down his wife, Nandini, in broad daylight outside Gwalior’s Roop Singh Cricket Stadium on September 12, allegedly over frequent disputes.

During interrogation, Parihar told investigators that he felt “free from daily quarrels” after the killing, Times of India reported.

As per the report citing the police, Parihar accused his wife of taking his money and cars while maintaining relationships with other men.

The police said that the trigger was a video Nandini had posted four days earlier on a social media platform, celebrating his alleged boyfriend Ankush Pathak’s birthday. Investigators said that the video allegedly enraged Parihar and pushed him over the edge.

Just three days before the crime, Nandini had complained of harassment against her husband. As per the TOI report, on the day of the shooting, Nandini and Ankush had visited the SP’s office to complain against Parihar. When they were returning, Parihar intercepted them near the stadium and fired five rounds from a pistol.

After shooting, Parihar remained by the body of Nandini, and forced the police to fire teargas shells to overpower and arrest him.

Police said the victim sustained multiple bullet wounds and died during treatment at hospital.

CSP Nagendra Sikarwar said that when officers reached the spot, Parihar brandished his weapon at them. “The accused even tried to threaten the police team, but he was subdued with teargas and taken into custody. His firearm has been seized,” he said.

Investigators revealed that Nandini and Parihar had been in a relationship despite both being married with children. In 2023, the two allegedly solemnised a marriage at an Arya Samaj Mandir without divorcing their spouses. However, their relationship soured, leading to repeated disputes and at least three complaints by Nandini against Parihar.
