‘Supergirl’ opens to Rs 1.40 cr amid ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ clash

Director Craig Gillespie’s superhero film ‘Supergirl’ has begun its box office run with a modest opening in India. The film starring Millie Alcock in the lead, opened to an estimated collection of Rs 1.40 crore net on Day 1, states a report on Sacnilk.

According to early trade figures, the DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures release played across 2,967 shows, taking its India gross collection to Rs 1.67 crore. The film that released in multiple languages, raked in the maximum collections from the film’s English release. Breaking down the language-wise collections, the English version led the film’s performance with Rs 1.05 crore, followed by the Hindi version with Rs 20 lakh. The Tamil version collected Rs 10 lakh, while the Telugu version contributed Rs 5 lakh.

‘Supergirl’ battles against ‘Welcome to the Jungle’

In India, ‘Supergirl’ faced stiff competition from ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, starring Akshay Kumar in the lead. The comedy entertainer had already generated momentum through paid preview shows, collecting an estimated Rs 3.75 crore net (approximately Rs 4.50 crore gross) ahead of its official release. On its first day, the Hindi comedy collected an estimated Rs 15 crore net across 10,892 shows, taking its cumulative India net collection to Rs 18.75 crore and India gross to Rs 22.50 crore. Overseas, the film has grossed Rs 6.50 crore, pushing its worldwide gross total to Rs 29 crore.

‘Supergirl’ makes USD 13 million start at American box office

‘Supergirl’ also made a promising start in North America, earning an estimated USD 7.8 million from Thursday preview screenings at the US box office and grossed USD 13 million globally on its opening day. As per Deadline, the film right now is tracking a collection of USD 40 million.

‘Supergirl’ follows Alcock’s character Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman, who made her cameo appearance in ‘Superman’ (2025). The film, which also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa, is the second theatrical release in the new DC Universe spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
