Ladakh Police file zero FIR against influencer over alleged anti-Amit Shah Facebook video

According to the FIR, the complainant alleged that the video was likely to promote hostility and disturb public order and communal harmony

NEW DELHI: Ladakh Police on Saturday registered a zero FIR against social media influencer Yogesh Parmar over the circulation of a Facebook video that allegedly contains objectionable remarks targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and transferred the case to Karnataka for further investigation, officials said.The FIR was lodged at Leh police station after a written complaint alleged that a Facebook video shared through a link contained remarks that were “highly objectionable, hateful and offensive” against the home minister.The case has been registered under Sections 197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to acts against national integration, 352 for insult intended to provoke a breach of peace, and 353(1) for public mischief, officials said.The offences carry punishments ranging from two to three years of imprisonment, along with a fine, or both, depending on the specific provision.According to the FIR, the complainant alleged that the video was likely to promote hostility and disturb public order and communal harmony.

“It is alleged that the content is likely to promote hostility, disturb public order and harmony by inciting resentment among the public. The allegations prima facie disclose the commission of a cognisable offence punishable under sections 197(1)(d), 352, 353(1) of the BNS,” officials said, citing the FIR.As the alleged incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Devaraja police station in Mysuru City, Karnataka, Leh police registered a zero FIR and transferred the case to the concerned police station for further investigation, officials added.A zero FIR allows police to register a cognisable offence irrespective of where the alleged incident took place and subsequently transfer the case to the appropriate jurisdiction.
