Politics: Mamata Banerjee’s Strong Room Visit Sparks Fresh Political Firestorm in West Bengal

In West Bengal’s high-voltage political atmosphere ahead of counting day, tensions escalated when Mamata Banerjee visited the strong room at Shekhawat Memorial Girls’ High School in West Bengal. The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) alleged EVM tampering and irregularities in postal ballot handling, claiming that unauthorized activities were taking place inside the strong room. Banerjee accused central forces, the Election Commission of India, and indirectly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of bias and interference, while also calling for strict vigilance by party workers. She spent hours at the site amid tense confrontations between TMC and BJP supporters, with security forces managing the situation. Banerjee urged her party workers to guard counting centres continuously, especially as exit polls indicated a close contest with BJP showing a possible lead. The BJP rejected the allegations, calling them politically motivated, while asserting that the election process is being conducted under proper security and rules.
