Maharashtra’s political landscape has witnessed another dramatic twist as six rebel Members of Parliament from Uddhav Thackeray’s faction of Shiv Sena are set to formally join the camp led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The development has intensified concerns within the Uddhav camp, with growing speculation that the rebellion could extend beyond MPs and potentially impact the party’s legislators as well. Amid the political upheaval, Uddhav Thackeray convened a crucial meeting of party MLAs and MLCs to assess the situation and reinforce unity within the organization. While most legislators reportedly attended the meeting, the absence of a few members fueled fresh discussions about possible dissatisfaction within the ranks. The rebellion marks a significant setback for the Uddhav-led faction, which has already witnessed a steady decline in its parliamentary strength. Political observers believe the latest defections could reshape the balance of power within Maharashtra’s opposition politics and further strengthen Shinde’s claim over the Shiv Sena legacy. The controversy escalated after Eknath Shinde hinted at another major political development, stating that “more breaking news” could emerge soon. His remarks triggered widespread speculation regarding a possible second phase of the so-called “Operation Tiger,” potentially involving legislators or local leaders. Reacting sharply, leaders from the Uddhav camp accused the ruling alliance of using political influence and resources to engineer defections. Aditya Thackeray alleged that elected representatives were being lured away despite winning elections under the banner of Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’s leadership. The turmoil comes at a time when the ruling Mahayuti alliance has also secured a dominant performance in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, winning 16 out of 17 seats. The result has further boosted the confidence of the ruling coalition while increasing pressure on the opposition. As political equations continue to shift, all eyes are now on whether the rebellion remains limited to MPs or expands into a larger realignment within Maharashtra politics.
