Ganpati Sthapana At Home: Ganesh Chaturthi, a 10-day festival celebrating Lord Ganesha, the deity of auspicious beginnings and remover of obstacles, will be observed this year on August 27, 2025.   6. Flowers, fruits, especially bananas

Step 1: Selecting the Ganesh Idol

Devotees may use an existing idol, make one from clay or turmeric, or purchase a new idol from shops or pandals. Many families prefer buying a new eco-friendly murti every year for the 10-day celebration.

Step 2: Setting Up the Altar

Place the Ganesh idol on an elevated platform or traditional puja altar. Decorate the pedestal with a clean cloth, draw rangoli, and arrange flowers and lights around the idol.

Step 3: Ganesh Puja Rituals

  1. Lighting Lamps and Incense: Begin with oil lamps or ghee lamps and incense sticks.
  2. Avahana & Pratishthapana: Invoke the deity with mantras to bring the idol to life.

  11. Naivedya: Offer modaks, fruits, and sweets while chanting mantras.
  12. Neerajan/Aarti & Pradakshina: Perform Aarti and circumambulate the idol with devotion.

Number of Days and Visarjan

Families may keep the idol at home for 1.5, 3, 5, 7, 10, or 11 days, depending on tradition. On the final day, Anant Chaturthi, the idol is immersed in water (Visarjan) following Uttarang Puja and Aarti.

  1. Offer flowers, diyas, dhoop, and naivedya before Visarjan.
  2. Pour a spoonful of curd on the idol’s palm as a blessing ritual.
  3. Handle the idol so its face is toward the family, symbolising farewell blessings.
  4. Chant: “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya” to complete the immersion.
