‘It would mean a lot’: Djokovic reportedly confirms talks with winner of 9 Grand Slams fueling coaching speculations

Novak Djokovic will take on local lad Learner Tien in the opening round of the US Open 2025. All eyes would be on the Serbian as his pursuit to claim the record breaking 25th Grand Slam title could finally come to end in New York.

Novak Djokovic, who would be aiming to secure his 25th Grand Slam title at the US Open 2025, might have to handle the pressure at Flushing Meadows without coach Dusan Vemic. According to reports, Vemic would not join Djokovic in New York.

The situation has prompted many to speculate that the Serbian could bring a temporary coach for the tournament. Subsequently, tennis legend Monica Seles’ name is making waves for the role.

Novak Djokovic on potentially teaming with Monica Seles

The 38-year-old addressed the speculations of teaming up with Seles, and without taking the name of the 9-time Grand Slam champion, he hinted that there is a possibility of them working together.

It would mean a lot to me,” Djokovic told Sportklub.

“I think you already know who it is but, come on, I’m not going to say names now, not to do it too soon. If the time comes… We’ve had some interesting conversations.”

As both are legends of the game, Djokovic and Seles would make a dream team. Moreover, given the all-round performer Seles was back in the day, she will have valuable lessons to share with Djokovic, which could prove to be the key for him to achieve that elusive 25th Grand Slam title.

Djokovic makes changes to coaching setup

In his pursuit of the record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title, Djokovic has made significant changes to his coaching setup in the last 12 months. First, he parted ways with Goran Ivanisevic, with whom he worked for six years from 2018 to 2024. Then, he brought former rival Andy Murray into the fold, but that partnership lasted only a little over six months. Dusan Vemic replaced the Briton at the French Open and Wimbledon 2025.

Novak Djokovic will open his US Open 2025 campaign against American wildcard Learner Tien in the first round. Having not competed since Wimbledon 2025, he is expected to arrive at the tournament refreshed and highly motivated to claim record 25th Grand Slam title.
