Horror and outrage spread across Telangana after a man was caught attempting to dump his wife’s dismembered body in the suburbs. According to police, he had already discarded the head, arms, and legs in the Musi River when he was apprehended, while the torso remained inside his house. The victim was 21 years old and five months pregnant.

The murder took place in Balaji Hills, a suburb of Hyderabad’s Medipalli.

The victim, identified as Swathi, and the accused, Mahender, are from Kamareddyguda in Vikarabad district. They got married after falling in love and shifted to Balaji Hills.

After marriage, they moved to Hyderabad and resided in a rented house at Boduppal. They lived happily for about one month; thereafter, frequent quarrels arose between them due to family disputes. In April 2024, the woman complained to the police in Vikarabad, accusing her husband of domestic violence, and a case was registered, news agency PTI reported.

On August 22, the woman told the accused that she would go to Vikarabad for a medical check-up and thereafter stay at her parents’ house. The accused did not agree, and a quarrel ensued. She abused him, and on the same day, the accused decided to eliminate her, police said.

He later dismembered her body and dumped some of the parts, officers added.

DCP (Malkajgiri Zone) P V Padmaja said that Mahender had called his sister and said his wife had gone missing. The sister got suspicious and informed a relative, who took him to a police station. There, he again tried to claim that his wife was missing, but during questioning, he confessed to killing his wife.

Mahender has been arrested and is currently in police custody for interrogation. According to officials, he had already discarded his wife’s head, hands, and legs in the Musi River, though divers have so far failed to recover them. The torso was discovered hidden inside his house.

“We have collected forensic evidence. Only the lady’s torso was found. We will conduct a DNA test to identify the deceased,” said the officer. “We have registered a case under the BNS sections. Fast-track investigation and trial will ensue,” she added.

The woman’s father said that he and his son-in-law had fallen out and were no longer on speaking terms. “My daughter would say they were doing fine, but he tortured her all the time. He should suffer the same way he made my daughter suffer,” he said.
