Every girl and woman faces multiple challenges during periods—such as severe abdominal or back pain, weakness, fatigue, and discomfort. Along with these common issues, many also experience bloating. A majority of women complain that a few days before their periods, their stomach begins to swell and feels unusually heavy. This condition is known as bloating.

What Do Experts Say?

Nutritionist Pooja Jaiswal shared a post on her Instagram account where she explained that, according to Ayurveda, this problem is linked to an imbalance in ‘Apana Vayu’. Apana Vayu is the downward-moving energy in the body that helps regulate the natural menstrual flow. When this energy gets disrupted, gas moves upward instead of downward, which leads to bloating, gas formation, and discomfort.

Asafoetida and Ghee Mix

According to the nutritionist, two to three days before your period, you can mix a pinch of asafoetida (hing) and black salt into one teaspoon of ghee and consume it. After having this mixture, drink lukewarm water. This can be taken once or twice a day. For best results, rest for about 20 minutes after consumption so that the body can respond quickly.

Navel Oiling

Pooja Jaiswal also recommends light oiling of the navel. For this, apply a few drops of hing oil around the navel and gently massage the area. This method is believed to help reduce gas and provide relief from bloating.

Watch Your Diet Too

Apart from these remedies, paying attention to your diet is equally important to prevent bloating.

Avoid vegetables like cabbage and cauliflower as they increase gas.

Instead of raw salads and cold food items, eat warm, cooked, and light meals.

Soups, porridge, and herbal teas are good choices because they are easy to digest and help relax the stomach.

If bloating continues for a long time or if the pain is unusually severe even after trying these remedies, it is important to consult a doctor.
