Weather Update: Heavy Rains Flood NCR, Nashik & Mumbai as Monsoon Tests Urban Infrastructure

Heavy monsoon showers swept across several parts of India, disrupting normal life in the National Capital Region, Maharashtra, and other cities as waterlogging, traffic congestion, and overflowing rivers exposed infrastructure challenges. In Noida and Greater Noida, fresh spells of rain led to water accumulation in multiple low-lying areas. Residents were seen taking shelter under flyovers as heavy showers lashed the region. Despite repeated claims by the Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority, and Yamuna Authority regarding pre-monsoon drain cleaning and road maintenance, several areas experienced severe waterlogging, affecting commuters and slowing traffic. Gurugram also witnessed widespread flooding after heavy rainfall. Visuals showed vehicles moving cautiously through submerged roads, particularly beneath flyovers where rainwater had accumulated significantly. The recurring flooding has once again raised concerns over drainage systems and monsoon preparedness across the NCR. Meanwhile, continuous rainfall in Maharashtra caused the Godavari River in Nashik to swell, submerging the historic Ram Kund and several nearby temples along the riverbank. Authorities have issued alerts advising residents to stay away from the river as the water level continues to rise due to persistent rainfall in Nashik, Trimbakeshwar, and Igatpuri. Mumbai also struggled with the impact of intermittent but intense showers. The King’s Circle area experienced rapid waterlogging within minutes of heavy rain, forcing civic authorities to deploy high-capacity pumps to drain floodwater. Fresh potholes also emerged on roads, creating additional hazards for motorists. Although rainfall eased temporarily, officials remained on alert, warning that another spell of heavy rain could once again disrupt traffic and public movement. With more rainfall forecast in the coming days, authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution, avoid flooded roads, and follow weather advisories as the monsoon continues to intensify across several regions.
