UP Encounter: Serial Killer Gurmeet Singh Shot Dead After Snatching Cop’s Weapon in Chandauli

A major crime story has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district, where police shot dead an alleged serial killer during an encounter after he reportedly tried to escape by snatching a police weapon. The accused, identified as Gurmeet Singh, was originally from Amritsar, Punjab, and had previously served in the Indian Army before working as a security guard in Bihar’s Ara district. According to police officials, Gurmeet Singh was dismissed from his security job due to excessive alcohol consumption. Investigators claim that following his termination, he went on a violent killing spree and murdered three innocent people within a short span of time. Two victims were allegedly killed aboard trains, while another person was murdered inside a hospital premises. Police said Gurmeet was caught after the hospital murder and was being taken by Government Railway Police (GRP), Special Operations Group (SOG), and local police teams for crime scene reconstruction and investigation. During the operation, the accused reportedly grabbed a police pistol and opened fire while attempting to flee from the scene near a railway station where one of the bodies had been recovered earlier. Security teams immediately launched a combing operation and surrounded the accused. Officials stated that Gurmeet again fired at the police team, forcing officers to retaliate in self-defense. He sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire and was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors later declared him dead. The incident has sparked strong reactions due to the brutal nature of the killings and the dramatic police operation that ended the accused’s alleged crime trail. Authorities are continuing the investigation to establish the complete sequence of events and possible motives behind the murders.
