Politics: Tej Pratap Yadav Sent to Judicial Custody After Violence During Bihar Protest

Violence erupted during the Bihar Bandh in Patna, called over the NEET paper leak issue and police action against protesting students. Police alleged that protesters pelted stones at security personnel and damaged vehicles, following which authorities used force, including lathi-charge and tear gas, to control the situation. RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav was accused by police of provoking protesters and encouraging unrest during the demonstration. He was initially detained and later released, but was re-arrested from a mall in Patna in the evening. After being taken to multiple police stations, he was produced before a judge at a late-night hearing and sent to Beur Jail for 14 days in judicial custody. He faces allegations of disturbing law and order, obstructing government officials, and inciting protesters. Police have registered cases against around 2,200 unidentified people and detained more than 450 individuals in connection with the violence. Meanwhile, Tej Pratap’s brother and opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav accused the Bihar government of excessive force, alleging that police used AK-47s during action against students in Siwan. Authorities have not confirmed the allegation.
