MUMBAI CRACKDOWN: Illegal Shrine Demolished in Goregaon Amid Tight Security and Vigilance

Authorities in Mumbai carried out a major anti-encroachment operation in the Goregaon-Aarey region, demolishing a structure that officials described as an unauthorized religious site allegedly built on government land. The operation was conducted under heavy police deployment amid concerns over maintaining law and order in a sensitive area. According to officials, the action followed a series of notices and administrative proceedings concerning alleged encroachment on public property. The structure, which reportedly occupied a significant portion of land under the jurisdiction of state authorities, was removed using heavy machinery as part of a broader campaign against unauthorized constructions. The demolition operation was closely monitored by law enforcement agencies, with multiple police personnel and security units deployed to prevent any untoward incident. Authorities also took measures to ensure that traffic movement and public access in the surrounding area remained largely unaffected during the operation. The issue had drawn political attention after concerns were raised regarding alleged encroachment on government-controlled land. Officials stated that action was taken following due administrative procedures and verification of land records. Reports indicate that adjoining makeshift structures and other encroachments that had gradually emerged around the site were also examined during the drive. The operation comes shortly after similar anti-encroachment actions in other parts of Mumbai, reflecting a wider effort by civic and state agencies to reclaim public land and address unauthorized constructions. Authorities maintain that such measures are necessary to protect government property, preserve environmentally sensitive zones, and ensure compliance with urban planning regulations.
