Bargi Dam Tragedy: 9 Dead, 6 Missing After Tourist Cruise Capsizes in Jabalpur Storm

A tragic boating accident at Bargi Dam in Jabalpur has claimed at least nine lives after a tourist cruise capsized during severe weather conditions. According to officials, the vessel was carrying 39 passengers when it lost balance amid strong winds and sudden turbulence, eventually sinking into the water. Rescue operations were launched immediately, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and district administration rushing to the site. So far, 24 People have been rescued safely, while nine bodies have been recovered. Six people are still missing, and the search for them continues. Divers and emergency personnel are combing the area, battling challenging conditions to locate the missing passengers. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the weather deteriorated rapidly, with strong winds destabilizing the cruise. Panic spread among passengers as the vessel began to tilt before capsizing completely. Visuals from the site show rescue teams pulling survivors out of the water and rushing them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Senior officials and state authorities reached the spot soon after the incident to monitor rescue efforts. The Madhya Pradesh government has announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹4 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives. Authorities have also ordered an inquiry to determine whether safety protocols were followed and if negligence played a role in the tragedy. This incident has raised serious concerns over tourist safety and weather preparedness at popular water bodies. As rescue teams continue their search for the missing, the focus remains on providing medical care to survivors and support to grieving families. The tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with water tourism during adverse weather conditions.
