In a significant price revision, the cost of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders has been sharply increased by ₹993, impacting businesses and consumers across major cities. Following the hike, prices in New Delhi have surged from ₹2078.50 to ₹3071.50 per cylinder, marking one of the steepest increases in recent times. Similar spikes have been recorded in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, where rates have crossed ₹3000, with Chennai witnessing the highest price at around ₹3237. While the hike applies only to commercial LPG cylinders used by restaurants, hotels, and small businesses, domestic consumers have received temporary relief as household LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged for now. However, experts warn that the increase in commercial gas rates is likely to have a cascading effect on the prices of food and services. Eateries, street vendors, and catering businesses that rely heavily on commercial LPG are expected to pass on the additional cost burden to customers. The move comes amid fluctuating global energy prices and rising operational costs faced by oil marketing companies. Although no official explanation has been detailed alongside the price revision, such hikes are typically influenced by international fuel trends and currency fluctuations. For small businesses already dealing with tight margins, this sudden increase could significantly impact profitability. Industry stakeholders have expressed concerns over reduced demand and higher operational expenses, especially in the food and hospitality sectors.
