Aditya Dhar praises ‘Dhurandhar’ choreographer Vijay Ganguly

Aditya Dhar praises 'Dhurandhar' choreographer Vijay Ganguly: 'There's a storyteller in him that goes beyond choreography'

In a recent interview, Director Aditya Dhar hailed choreographer Vijay Ganguly’s pivotal role in the success of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’. With a keen eye that rivals that of a seasoned director, Ganguly’s work on the infectious ‘Shararat’ track—initially at risk of being cut—showcases his artistry. Read on to know more in detail.

As ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ continues its record-breaking box office run since its March 19 release, director Aditya Dhar has been taking a moment to celebrate the people behind the scenes. His latest tribute is for choreographer Vijay Ganguly, the creative force behind the ‘Shararat’ song in the first Dhurandhar film, whose viral hook steps have taken social media by storm.

Aditya Dhar praises Vijay Ganguly for ‘Dhurandhar’

In a detailed appreciation note shared publicly, Aditya Dhar highlighted Vijay Ganguly’s instinctive approach to choreography, one that goes far beyond counting beats and matching steps. He also drew a connection to Vijay’s lineage, noting that his storytelling instinct may well be inherited from his father, Anil Ganguly, the director behind classics like ‘Kora Kagaz’, ‘Tapasya’, ‘Trishna’, and ‘Saaheb’.Dhar shared, “Choreographer par excellence – Vijay Ganguly. With Vijay, it always begins with instinct. He doesn’t just hear music, he feels it and then translates that feeling into something you can see. What surprised me most on Dhurandhar was how much he thinks like a director. It made my job easier in ways I didn’t expect. Maybe it’s years of experience or maybe it’s in his DNA, being the great Anil Ganguly’s son, but there’s a storyteller in him that goes beyond choreography. ”

Aditya Dhar shares how ‘Shararat’ almost didn’t make it into the film

One of the most interesting revelations in Aditya Dhar’s note is that ‘Shararat’, now one of the franchise’s biggest viral moments, almost never happened. The director admitted he was not convinced about including a lip-sync dance track, but it was Vijay’s quiet confidence that changed his mind.”I still remember our conversations around ‘Shararat.’ I wasn’t fully convinced about doing a lip-sync dance track in the film. But Vijay just smiled and said, ‘Let’s go for it sir, it’ll be fun.’ That one push gave (composer) Shashwat (Sachdev) and me the confidence we needed. And what came out of it is honestly one of my favorite parts of the film.”

More about ‘Shararat’ and ‘Fa9la’ from ‘Dhurandhar’

Featuring Ayesha Khan and Krystle D’Souza, ‘Shararat’ became an online sensation with fans and creators widely recreating its signature moves. Dhar also praised Vijay for his work across the franchise, from the number ‘Didi’ to the high-energy ‘Fa9la’ (Flipperachi) featuring Akshaye Khanna, noting that every sequence was infused with heart, detail, and passion, even on the most demanding shoot days.
