Trump again takes credit, now for warning US about Bin Laden before 9/11

President Donald Trump said the then US government didn’t listen to him. “And they didn’t do it. A year later he blew up the World Trade Center.”

US President Donald Trump has once again asserted personal credit for a major historical event, this time claiming he foresaw and warned the government about Al-Qaeda terrorist Osama bin Laden a year before the devastating September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Speaking at an event in Washington DC, Trump told a cheering crowd that his warnings, published in one of his books, were ignored by the then-administration, a failure he connected to the 9/11 attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center and killed more than 3,000 people.

“History will never forget that it was the SEALs who stormed the compound of Osama bin Laden and put a bullet in his head,” Trump said. “Remember that. And please remember I wrote about Osama bin Laden exactly one year ago, one year before he blew up the World Trade Center.”

‘You got to watch Osama’

Trump detailed his alleged foresight, stating he devoted a specific page in his book to the threat posed by the Al-Qaeda terrorist.

“I said one year before to Pete… In the book I wrote whatever the hell the title. I can’t tell you. But I can tell you there’s a page in there devoted to the fact that I saw somebody named Osama bin Laden and I didn’t like it and you got to take care of him,” he recounted.

Trump lamented that the government “didn’t do it. A year later he blew up the World Trade Center. So, we got to take a little credit because nobody else is going to give it to me…”

Osama bin Laden was killed on May 2, 2011, by a US Navy SEAL team during a raid ordered by then-President Barack Obama.

Pattern of credit-taking

This is the latest in a series of claims of credit from Trump. He has repeatedly stated he stopped numerous wars and deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.

He also pointed to his relentless follow-up efforts with various leaders, including those in Russia, Ukraine, Israel, and Hamas, as part of a push to halt two of the world’s most significant ongoing conflicts. Despite multiple rounds of talks with European and regional leaders, the administration has yet to report any concrete, lasting results.

Furthermore, the recent proposal for an Israel-Hamas peace deal appears stalled, with the President resorting to threatening Hamas with action if they do not agree to the proposed 20-point deal.

Trump has also previously claimed to have intervened to stop a conflict between India and Pakistan in May. That claim was denied by New Delhi, which asserted the matter was a bilateral affair and that Islamabad had initiated the request for a ceasefire.
