Rajnath Singh Reaches Jammu To Visit Cloudburst-Hit Chisoti Village; 32 People Still Missing

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh would visit the cloudburst-hit Chisoti in Kishtwar, where 65 died, 100 injured, and 32 people are still missing after August 14 disaster.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reached Jammu on Sunday. He will visit cloudburst-hit Chisoti village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, to review the search operation as 32 people are still missing.

A cloudburst struck Chisoti village on August 14, killing 65 persons and injuring over 100 others, while the search for 32 other missing persons is still underway.

Earlier today, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha met the injured victims at Government Medical College. He told the reporters that the Defence Minister will go the village if weather permits.

“If the weather permits, we will visit the affected village. Otherwise, he (defence minister) will meet the injured in GMC and return to Delhi,” Sinha was quoted as saying by PTI.

“Sixteen people are under treatment in the GMC and their condition is stable. I hope all of them will recover fully and return home soon,” the LG added.

He also said an amount of Rs 4.13 crore has been spent on relief and rehabilitation of the victims, and both the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the centre will ensure their proper rehabilitation.

Intense Rain In Jammu

The Jammu region has been witnessing intense monsoon showers for the past few days, causing rivers to swell, triggering landslides, and disrupting normal life in low-lying and hilly areas.

A bridge over the Sahar Khad river near the Jammu-Pathankot Highway in Kathua has been damaged after the river began flowing in spate due to continuous rains. The traffic got disrupted due to the incident.

Earlier, on August 17, seven people lost their lives and 11 others were injured in a cloudburst that struck Kathua district.
