Tata Motors on Tuesday launched the all-electric Sierra.ev at an introductory starting price of ₹18.79 lakh (ex-showroom), reviving one of its most recognisable SUV nameplates in an electric avatar as competition intensifies in India’s premium EV market.

Bookings for the Sierra.ev have opened immediately, while customer deliveries will begin from July 15.

The Sierra.ev is offered with a claimed real-world driving range of 510–530 km (C75 cycle) and an ARAI-certified MIDC range of up to 665 km. The company is also offering a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty for the first owner, covering a period of up to 15 years.

The SUV is equipped with a 75-kWh battery pack and, in its dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant, produces 306 PS of power and 504 Nm of torque. Tata Motors claims the vehicle can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.8 seconds and add up to 263 km of range in 15 minutes of fast charging.

“The Sierra has always stood for more than just mobility. It has been an icon of innovation, aspiration and progress, bringing the future closer to customers,” said Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd.

“Today, with Sierra.ev, we are taking that legacy forward and setting a new benchmark for what an uncompromised premium SUV can be in the electric era. Combining exceptional real-world range, exhilarating performance, intelligent technology, indulgent comfort and go-anywhere capability, the Sierra.ev delivers an SUV experience that is as desirable as it is transformative,” he added.

Chandra said the mid-size SUV segment remains central to India’s passenger vehicle market and that the company expects EV adoption to increasingly be driven by product desirability rather than early-adopter interest.

Key features

The Sierra.ev comes with three dashboard displays, a head-up display, Dolby Atmos-enabled 12-speaker JBL audio system, panoramic sunroof, powered seats and advanced parking functions including auto park, summon and remote parking.

On the technology front, it features over-the-air software updates, more than 70 connected-car functions, Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capability, along with an integrated EV route planner and in-car UPI payment functionality.

Performance and capability

The electric SUV is built on Tata Motors’ Acti.ev+ architecture and is available with a dual-motor Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) configuration featuring on-demand all-wheel drive.

The Sierra.ev also gets six terrain modes—Snow, Mud, Sand, Rock Crawl, Custom and Normal—along with approximately 205 mm ground clearance, off-road assist, and a 540-degree HD surround-view camera with transparent mode for improved visibility in off-road conditions.

The model will be available in seven exterior colours, including two new shades—Rishikesh Rapids and Nainital Nocturne.
