NEW DELHI: Bankipur is set for a three-way contest as BJP’s Nitin Nabin, RJD’s Rekha Kumari and JanSuraj’s Vandana Kumari await the counting of votes on Wednesday. Polling has concluded and the fate of all candidates is now locked in the EVMs. Bankipur, one of Patna’s most politically active urban constituencies, recorded a strong turnout, reflecting continued voter engagement and the constituency’s role as a BJP bastion in the capital region.

A poll of polls released on Tuesday indicated that the NDA may be positioned to form the next government with around 148 seats. The RJD-led Mahagathbandhan is projected to secure about 88 seats, while other parties could win roughly 7. People’s Pulse estimated 133–159 seats for the NDA, 75–101 for the Mahagathbandhan, 0–5 for Jan Suraaj and 2–8 for others. The Dainik Bhaskar poll projected 145–160 seats for the NDA and 73–91 for the Mahagathbandhan, adding that Jan Suraaj may not open its account and others could get 5–10. JVC-Polls projected 135–150 seats for the NDA, 88–103 for the Mahagathbandhan and 3–6 for others. Matrize estimated 147–167 seats for the NDA, 70–90 for the opposition alliance and 2–10 for other parties. People’s Insight forecast 133–148 seats for the NDA, 87–102 for the Mahagathbandhan and 3–6 for others. The Election Commission reported over 68 per cent turnout across 122 constituencies in the second phase, signalling strong participation. Bankipur has remained firmly with the BJP for over a decade. In the 2020 election, the constituency had 3,91,775 electors and 1,40,683 valid votes. BJP’s Nitin Nabin won with 83,068 votes. Congress candidate Luv Sinha finished second with 44,032 votes, losing by 39,036. In 2015, Bankipur had 3,58,234 electors and 1,44,152 valid votes. Nitin Naveen retained the seat with 86,759 votes. Kumar Ashish of the Congress secured 46,992 votes and lost by 39,767. In 2010, the constituency had 2,95,765 electors and 1,09,309 valid votes. Nitin Nabin won the seat with 78,771 votes.
