Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday said that he will meet Donald Trump on Monday (August 18), as he held a “long and substantive” call with the US president, hours after the Alaska Summit.
“Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace. President Trump informed about his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of their discussion. It is important that America’s strength has an impact on the development of the situation,” Zelenskyy said in a post on X.
Trump spoke for more than an hour with Zelenskyy, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
According to the Ukrainian presidency, Trump spoke first with Zelensky and then the other European leaders joined the call. The White House has also confirmed the call.
The White House, however, has not yet confirmed Zelenskyy’s meeting with Trump in Washington. When confirmed, this will be the Ukrainian president’s first visit to the US after February’s debacle, where he was rebuked by Trump over the war.
