Late singer Zubeen Garg’s bandmate Partha Pratim Goswami expressed strong scepticism over the new claim that the singer was poisoned, calling it “rubbish” and “scripted.” His remarks come after reports that Zubeen’s bandmate, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, told investigators that the singer may have been poisoned.

“I am ready to help them (CID) 110%. The case is taking a different turn every day. Suddenly, we came to know yesterday that Shekhar (bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami) has said that Zubeen was poisoned. Does it take 15 days to tell if someone was poisoned?” he said.

He added that if poisoning were ever proven, the person responsible should face the same punishment as Zubeen’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, who is already under scrutiny.

Goswami added, “If it is proved that Zubeen was poisoned, he has to be given the same life sentence as Siddharth. I still think this is rubbish.”

Partha also questioned the credibility of the claim, citing Singapore’s strict laws and forensic standards, since Zubeen reportedly died there. “I never saw a video of Zubeen drowning; we all saw a video of him struggling and coming back. As far as I know, Singapore law is one of the strictest in the world. Did they show such negligence that they could not find poisoning in the postmortem? I don’t believe this. Do you think Singapore will make such a blunder?”

Expressing frustration over what he perceives as speculation around Zubeen’s death, Partha said, “I am smelling a rat… I hope we don’t make a play of the incident. Give his soul rest, let it rest in peace.”

Goswami further blamed the singer’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, and fellow bandmate, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, for “negligence and carelessness” leading to the tragedy.

“You people stay like the shadow of Zubeen, and you brought someone who didn’t sleep, was drinking and partying the whole night, to the sea to swim, knowing that Zubeen was a seizure patient. How can you do that?” he said.

Accusing them of recklessness, Partha added, “You didn’t allow him to sleep and took him to the sea and made him swim because you wanted to have fun. Till I die, I will never forgive them for this stupid mistake they made.”

According to official documents, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami claimed that the singer was “poisoned” in Singapore. He alleged that Zubeen’s manager Siddharth and event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta had “deliberately chosen a foreign venue to conceal their conspiracy.”

Both Sharma and Mahanta have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation. Co-singer Amritprava Mahanta and bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami have also been taken into custody.
