Indian weddings have always been a canvas for creativity, and photography trends evolve as quickly as bridal lehengas and décor styles. In 2025, two approaches stand out: the return of vintage nostalgia and the continued rise of cinematic drone storytelling. Both trends, while seemingly opposite, share a common purpose capturing moments that feel unforgettable, personal, and timeless.

The Vintage Revival

Recommended Stories

For many couples, 2025 has been the year of looking back to move forward. Arjun Mahatta, Partner, Mahatta and Co., has witnessed this shift firsthand. “Lately, I’ve noticed couples leaning toward a vintage, retro vibe,” he says. “It could be as simple as a bride wearing her mother’s lace veil, a groom arriving in a ’70s car, or décor with antique lamps and muted light. The result? Photos that don’t just scream 2025, they feel timeless.”

This isn’t about applying a filter. Mahatta explains that it’s about the craft itself playing with softer light, subtle grain, and in some cases, shooting with real film. Couples often bring family albums or heirlooms into the process, turning the photos into generational stories rather than mere documentation. He recalls, “One bride wore her grandmother’s bangles. When the family saw those photos, the room teared up. It wasn’t just a picture, it was a continuation of memory.”

Vintage-inspired weddings also tend to move at a slower, more intentional pace, giving photographers space to capture the in-between moments: a friend fixing the groom’s tie, or a quiet pause between mother and daughter before the aisle. As Mahatta puts it, “Nostalgia grounds the couple. For me, it means capturing what truly matters, emotion, memory, and timelessness.”

The Drone Advantage

While some couples lean into nostalgia, others are turning to cutting-edge technology to elevate their celebrations. Vikrant, Photographer, Mahatta and Co., believes drones remain one of the most impactful tools in wedding photography. “Even in 2025, drones are still trendy,” he notes. “They provide sweeping aerial views of the venue, capture the grandeur of the surroundings, and add a cinematic touch to albums without losing intimacy.”

From sprawling heritage palaces to beachfront ceremonies, drones bring scale and dynamism to the storytelling. “It’s another layer to the narrative,” Vikrant explains. “You see the people, the design, and the environment all at once. Couples love the ‘wow’ factor, but it also truly captures the essence of the moments.”

What makes drones indispensable today is how subtle they’ve become. “Modern drones are nearly silent, they can be flown anywhere, and deliver photos and videos of unparalleled clarity,” Vikrant says. “To me, they’re not a fad. They help us document a wedding in a way that’s personal, grand, and cinematic all at once.”

A Dual Legacy

Together, these two trends highlight the duality of weddings today anchored in tradition yet embracing innovation. Vintage photography evokes intimacy and legacy, while drones offer scale and cinematic grandeur. Both, however, serve the same purpose: to ensure that love, family, and memory are captured in ways that last beyond the wedding day.

As Mahatta and Vikrant remind us, the future of wedding photography in 2025 isn’t about choosing between old and new. It’s about blending emotion with technology, intimacy with spectacle, and ensuring that every album tells a story that feels both timeless and unforgettable.
