At the 42nd session of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Assembly in Montreal, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India was honoured with the prestigious ICAO Council President Certificate. The award was received by Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, IAS, Director General, DGCA, at the opening ceremony on September 23.

This commendation recognises India’s significant progress in establishing a robust and effective Safety Oversight System. The ICAO, a specialised agency of the United Nations, awarded the certificate for the DGCA’s notable improvement in the “Effective Implementation” of ICAO’s International Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) across all critical technical audit areas. These areas include Airworthiness, Flight Operations, Legislation, and Personnel Licensing, among others. The recognition is a testament to the comprehensive surveillance and audit mechanisms that the DGCA has put in place, reflecting a firm commitment to enhancing aviation safety.

The award is a major milestone for India’s civil aviation sector, placing it among a select group of nations that have demonstrated such notable improvement.
