A shocking video has emerged on social media, showing a man kidnapping a three-year-old child in broad daylight outside his home in Tamil Nadu’s Gudiyatham on Tuesday. The boy has been rescued from the Vellore district.

CCTV footage showed a man wearing a helmet stepping out of a car with Karnataka’s number, and waiting outside the victim’s house. The father, who had just returned home with his son, had just arrived and was parking his scooter inside, while the suspect waited outside.

Moments later, the suspect rushed towards the house and carried the child away in the car. The father was seen running after the suspect and clinging to the car before he fell off.

The child’s father, identified as Venu, was seen holding his traumatised son inside a police vehicle shortly after he was rescued by a team, reported NDTV. A senior police official confirmed that the suspect was at large and his motive was not immediately clear.

Meanwhile, Venu told reporters that the man wearing the helmet sprayed chilli powder in his face and snatched his child. “I pulled him, but he managed to escape with my son,” he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, a packet of chilli powder was found at the scene, with visible traces also detected on the father’s clothing. Police said the abductors had used a car with a Karnataka number plate, which appears to have been fake.

All border check-posts have been alerted in the wake of the kidnapping and all teams were deployed to track the car’s movements. Police have assured of intensified efforts to nab the kidnappers.
