Navratri 2025 Day 4: Who is Goddess Kushmanda? Significance and Vrat Katha

Goddess Kushmanda is believed to be the source of energy, who brought light and life to a dark universe. She is revered as the creator of the universe. It’s believed that Goddess Kushmanda provides energy to the Sun. By worshipping her, devotees seek health, vitality and positive energy in their lives.

As per Hindu mythology, after taking the form of Goddess Siddhidatri, Goddess Parvati started residing inside the centre of the Sun. She radiated divine energy and created the universe, or Brahmanda, with just her smile. This divine form of Goddess Parvati is known as Maa Kushmanda.

She is often depicted riding a lioness and is also called Ashtabhuja Devi because of her eight hands. In her hands, she carries symbols of power and blessings, including a Kamandal, Dhanush, bow, arrow, lotus flower, Amrit Kalash, Jap Mala, Gada and Chakra.

Goddess Kushmanda is also fond of the white pumpkin, or Kushmanda Phala. Devotees offer white pumpkin on the fourth day of Navratri to seek her blessings.

Navratri 2025 Day 4: Colour

The colour for the fourth day of Navratri is yellow. The colour, associated with Goddess Kushmanda, symbolises optimism, energy, and happiness. Devotees wear yellow clothes during prayers and celebrations to invite positive energy into their lives.

Navratri 2025 Day 4: Goddess Kushmanda Bhog

On Day 4, devotees prepare Malpua as the special bhog for Goddess Kushmanda. Offering Malpua is believed to please the Goddess. It’s believed that worshipping Goddess Kushmanda removes darkness from the lives of her devotees and blesses them with prosperity, health and wisdom. Many devotees also observe a day-long fast to please Maa Kushmanda.

Worshipping Goddess Kushmanda is considered deeply significant during Navratri, as she embodies the divine force of creation and energy. It’s believed that worshipping her leads to prosperity, positivity, new creations and removal of negative energies in the lives of devotees.
