In a recent announcement, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin revealed that a significant majority —nearly 60% — of the grievances raised at the Stalin Camp relate to women’s rights and queries about the disbursement of the first-time payments under the Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme.

Applications are currently being accepted from women who were previously excluded from the scheme through Stalin Camps organised across the state. These applications are being reviewed in phases, and it has been announced that applicants who submitted their forms through the Stalin Camps will receive a response within 45 days.

These camps offer a wide range of government services — 43 services from 13 departments in urban areas and 46 services from 15 departments in rural areas, all in a single location. Services provided include issuance of caste certificates, land ownership transfers, pensions, old-age allowances, marriage assistance, and Aadhaar card corrections, making essential services more accessible to the public. With the Stalin Scheme completing 45 days on August 28, government sources have indicated that the first list of beneficiaries is expected to be released shortly.

In this context, Udhayanidhi Stalin took part in a welfare assistance distribution event held in Virudhunagar on September 23. Speaking at the event, he said that although he had visited several districts to distribute land ownership documents (pattas), the opportunity to do so in Virudhunagar was particularly meaningful. He also addressed concerns raised by women who had newly applied under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai scheme via the Stalin Camps.

He acknowledged that there were shortcomings in some areas, with eligible women still awaiting their entitlements under the scheme. He noted that 60% of the complaints received at the camps were related to the women’s rights scheme and assured that additional beneficiaries would be covered within the next couple of months.

It has been reported that the first instalment of payments may be issued from October 15, in time for Diwali, as a festive gift for new applicants under the Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme.
