Doctors across Delhi NCR have pointed to the H3N2 influenza A virus as the dominant strain this season.

The H3N2 virus is spreading rapidly across Delhi and NCR, with locals experiencing common flu-like symptoms. A recent health report by the Local Circles Survey highlighted the ongoing health challenge. According to the body, 50 to 70 per cent of households in and around the capital city of Delhi have reported at least one member going down with flu symptoms in the past few months.

For doctors and health experts, the flu is not new, but it is currently at a serious stage and needs immediate attention. The H3N2 strain of influenza is a type A virus that rises through several factors such as post-monsoon waterlogging, temperature fluctuations and increased outdoor strolls.

A high number of hospitals in the region have patients suffering from the effects of the virus strain, especially those with pre-existing respiratory problems. As influenza engulfs Delhi and NCR cities, a survey of 11,000 respondents confirmed they have at least one family member currently experiencing symptoms like fever, cough or fatigue.

According to the Local Circles survey, 37 per cent of households reported at least four or more people sick, while another 32 per cent had between one and three members showing flu symptoms. The authorities have observed a steep rise in such patients since March 2025, when only 54 per cent of households had at least one member suffering from fever, cough or other symptoms of influenza.

Most viruses resolve on their own based on the individual’s immune system following proper rest and medication. However, doctors warn that children and the elderly are currently vulnerable to the H3N2 flu, with some hospitals reporting cases of pneumonia, bronchitis and respiratory challenges.

Preventive Steps

Individuals should get vaccinated to reduce the severity and duration of the illness. If you or anyone in your family is experiencing any of the common symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, muscle pain, chills, vomiting and loose motions, visit the doctor immediately.

If you regularly take public transport, be responsible and wear masks to prevent catching and spreading the respiratory virus. Maintain good hygiene around you by cleaning your surroundings and using hand sanitisers regularly.

During sickness, make sure you avoid junk food and eat a balanced diet packed with essential nutrients such as protein, fibre and healthy carbs.
