‘Tyrant’ shoot paused following shooting at World Cup watch party

Charlize Theron, Demi Moore's 'Tyrant' film shoot paused; cast and crew sent home following nearby shooting during World Cup watch party

Production on the upcoming thriller ‘Tyrant’, starring Demi Moore and Charlize Theron in lead roles, was temporarily disrupted following a shooting near the film’s Los Angeles sets.According to TMZ, the film’s cast and crew members were sent home, as a precaution following the shooting during a FIFA World Cup watch party, where one person was shot and a suspect was subsequently arrested. The shooting reportedly occurred during a large gathering in Koreatown where fans had assembled to watch Mexico take on South Korea.A source close to the production told the portal that while the Los Angeles Police Department did not order an evacuation of the sets, the decision to halt work and send the team home, was made by the production team as a ‘precautionary measure’. The watch party was being held near the sets of the film that also stars Julia Garner and Hudson Williams. The report added that several of the film’s high-profile stars were among those affected by the shutdown. The decision ultimately proved timely, as police reportedly issued a citywide tactical alert, allowing additional officers to be deployed to Koreatown to assist with crowd control efforts. The match saw Mexico take a 1-0 victory over South Korea.Details about Tyrant remain largely under wraps. The project is written and directed by David Weil, marking his feature directorial debut. As per Deadline, ‘ Tyrant’ is said to have shades of ‘Wall Street’ and ‘Whiplash’ set in NYC’s high-end culinary world. It is based on a story by Weil and Cody Behan. On the work front, Charlize was most recently seen in the OTT film ‘Apex’. She will soon feature in a lead role in the upcoming Christopher Nolan film ‘The Odyssey’ which is slated to hit theatres on July 17.
