A shocking incident of arson has come to light from Takli Shivara in Kej taluka of Maharashtra’s Beed district, where a family dispute spiralled into violence late Sunday night. A man allegedly set fire to his brother-in-law’s hotel, causing property damage estimated between Rs 70,000-80,000.

According to police, the accused, identified as Tanaji Ramdas Gaikwad of Sonijwala, has been embroiled in domestic disputes with his wife Dnyaneshwari, the daughter of Nanabhau Kadam. Married for eight years, the couple has three children.

However, frequent instances of physical abuse allegedly forced Dnyaneshwari to leave her marital home and take shelter at her brother Asaram Kadam’s residence in Kadamwadi.

Sources said that tensions had been escalating for weeks. Two weeks ago, Tanaji reportedly arrived at Kadamwadi and issued a dire threat to his in-laws. “If you don’t send my wife to Beed, I will kill my brother-in-law, Asaram Kadam,” he had allegedly warned.

On Sunday night, the threat took a violent turn when Tanaji allegedly set fire to Asaram Kadam’s hotel located on the Ahmednagar–Ahilyanagar highway. The blaze gutted the establishment’s paper shed, deep freezer, refrigerator, counter, chairs, tables, water jars and other materials, leaving the business in ruins.

A formal complaint was lodged by Asaram Kadam at the Kej Police Station, following which a case has been registered against Tanaji Gaikwad.

This was not the first time the accused had been in conflict with the law. Earlier, Dnyaneshwari had approached the Yusuf Vadgaon Police Station twice, filing complaints against her husband for both physical and mental harassment.

The police investigation is currently underway.
