Panic gripped Sadar Main Road in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday morning after the lifeless body of an Army officer was discovered inside a parked car outside the Indian Coffee House. The deceased was identified as Major B Vijay Kumar, who was serving with the Indian Army.
According to initial reports, the officer had left his residence around 8 am to report for duty. However, his car came to an abrupt halt in front of the Indian Coffee House and remained stationary for nearly two hours. Passers-by and local traders grew suspicious when no movement was seen inside.

“Some people gathered courage and peeped through the window, only to find the Major slumped in an unconscious state on the driver’s seat,” eyewitnesses said. Alarmed, they immediately alerted the Cantonment police station.
A police team soon arrived at the spot and opened the car door, only to discover that the officer had stopped breathing. His identity was confirmed through the vehicle’s documents, which belonged to the Army. Shortly thereafter, Army officers reached the scene with an ambulance. The body was transported to the military hospital, where doctors conducted preliminary examinations.
Hospital authorities suspect that Major Kumar suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while driving, though a definitive cause will only be established after the post-mortem. “At present, it appears to be a case of natural death, but we are awaiting the medical report,” the Cantonment police station in-charge said, adding that the police are working in coordination with Army officials.
As the incident occurred in the civilian area of the Cantt police station jurisdiction, both Army and police teams are jointly probing the case. The officer’s family, who have been informed by the Army, are expected to arrive in Jabalpur soon.
