BMW Group India on Wednesday reported its highest-ever first-half sales in the country, driven by strong demand for electric vehicles (EVs), long-wheelbase models and sports activity vehicles (SAVs).

The luxury carmaker sold 9,075 cars during January-June 2026, up 17 per cent year-on-year, while second-quarter deliveries also grew 17 per cent to 4,507 units, according to the company.

Electric vehicles remained the fastest-growing segment for the company. BMW delivered 2,359 EVs in the first six months of the year, registering 78 per cent growth over the same period last year.

EVs accounted for 26 per cent of the company’s total sales, meaning one in every four BMW Group cars sold in India during the period was electric. The company said it retained a 69 per cent share of the luxury EV market.

“We have delivered 9,075 cars, but beyond this impressive number, what we are really focused on is to continue our steady double-digit growth in an otherwise challenging environment. The 17 per cent growth is a clear reflection of the deep trust our customers place in our brands,” said Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India.

Long-wheelbase, SAV models gain traction

BMW said demand for its long-wheelbase range continued to grow, with sales rising 24 per cent year-on-year to 4,428 units. These models contributed 52 per cent of the company’s overall sales during the first half. Sports activity vehicles remained the largest contributor to volumes. BMW and MINI SAVs recorded 35 per cent growth to 5,926 units, accounting for 65 per cent of total sales.

The MINI brand also posted strong growth, with sales increasing 70 per cent year-on-year to 504 units. The recently launched MINI Countryman C emerged as the brand’s best-selling model, while the company said all special editions introduced this year have been sold out.

BMW Motorrad delivered 2,327 motorcycles during the first half, with models such as the S 1000 RR, F 900 GS/GSA and R 1300 GS/GSA among the key contributors. Deliveries of the new F 450 GS also commenced towards the end of June.

BMW Group India launched 11 new products during the first half of 2026 and plans to introduce 14 more models before the end of the year. The company is also expanding its retail network, with 19 new outlets planned across 18 cities in 2026. It currently operates 100 touchpoints across 40 cities under its three brands.

BMW India Financial Services financed one in every four BMW cars sold during the first half, supported by financing products that include lower monthly installments, assured buyback options and upgrade programmes.
