Heavy monsoon rains continue to disrupt normal life across Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra, severely affecting air, rail, and road transport. More than 200 flights have been delayed, several flights have been cancelled or diverted due to poor visibility, while passengers have been advised by airlines to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. The downpour has also impacted Mumbai’s suburban railway network. Train services on the Central Railway line were disrupted between Bhandup and Kanjurmarg after a plastic object became entangled in the overhead power wire, forcing multiple trains to halt. Hundreds of commuters were seen walking along railway tracks after being stranded for nearly an hour. On the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, traffic has resumed after debris from a landslide was cleared, although heavy rain and strong winds continue to pose challenges for motorists. Authorities have appealed to people to avoid unnecessary travel as weather conditions remain unstable. The rising water level of the Mithi River has raised concerns about flooding in low-lying areas. Officials are closely monitoring the situation, especially during high tide, as backflow from the sea could slow down rainwater drainage across the city. At Marine Drive, massive waves and gusty winds prompted Mumbai Police to deploy personnel to keep visitors away from the promenade. Despite repeated warnings, many people continued to gather near the waterfront, increasing the risk of accidents. Meanwhile, several areas across Mumbai continue to witness waterlogging, while authorities remain on alert as the India Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rainfall over the coming hours.
