This producer recently opened up his passion project, which failed at the box office miserably. The movie didn’t even recover half of the amount of its investment. The film was released in theaters in April last year. Reportedly, it took almost five years to complete the project. Well, the movie we are talking about is ‘Maidaan’, and the producer is Boney Kapoor.

Boney Kapoor reveals how the production cost inflated to 210 crore: ‘I also suffered because…’

According to the India.com report, the film’s production started in 2019. As per the report, the initial production cost was Rs 120 crore; however, it went on to become Rs 210 crore until completion. Reportedly, he took loans to settle his debts.

Producer Boney Kapoor shared about the immense financial struggles and logistical nightmares he faced during the making of the Ajay Devgn-starrer ‘Maidaan’. As per the report, there were several delays, setbacks, and the COVID-19 pandemic, which inflated the cost of production.In an interview with Komal Nahta, Boney shared that he “lost” money due to the film. He explained that a significant portion of the film was shot by early 2020, but the planned match sequences with international players were stalled by the nationwide lockdown.The producer further shared that his challenges for the film went beyond the pandemic. “Apart from the pandemic, I also suffered because of a cyclone that came during that time. My entire stadium set was wiped out,” he revealed.Due to this, the film’s budget soared to Rs 210 crore.

Food from a five star hotel for over 800 people

The producer shared how the safety protocols during the pandemic cost him a lot. He said that during the match shoots, the crew was of around 800 people. As everyone was not allowed to eat together, they had to order food from Taj for the entire unit.He told the host, “We had done a deal with a particular brand. They supplied water, and that bill was humongous.”However, after losing a massive amount after the film didn’t do well at the box office, Boney took loans to clear the debts. He said, “The film failed, but it was not their fault.” He went on to add, “They, in fact, patiently waited for four long years, with some even reducing their fees by 10-15%.”
