Government fixes retail price of 42 common drug formulations

NEW DELHI: The government has fixed the retail price of 42 common drug formulations, including broad-spectrum antibiotic Meropenem & Sulbactam injection by Zydus Healthcare and Mycophenolate Mofetil tablets by Ipca Laboratories, used to prevent organ rejection in transplant cases.The retail price of Meropenem & Sulbactam injection is Rs 1,938.59 per vial, and Mycophenolate Mofetil is Rs 131.58 per tablet. Clarithromycin Extended-Release tablets by Abbott Healthcare, used to treat bacterial infections, are priced at Rs 71.71 per tablet.In Feb, National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority, which controls drug prices, ordered manufacturers to issue a price list to dealers, state drug controllers, and the govt, referencing such price fixation or revision as per government orders or gazette notifications.”The order to display the price list allows citizens to cross-check whether pharmacies are selling at NPPA-fixed prices,” said an official.”Every retailer and dealer shall display the price list and supplementary price list, if any, in a conspicuous place, easily accessible to the public,” the NPPA order stated. The directive also covers online/virtual retail premises.
