‘Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing’ pooch Ted passes away at 13 years; cast pays touching tribute

Ted, a patterdale terrier mix, became a beloved fixture on the fishing comedy series ‘Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing’. The dog first appeared on the show in 2020 and regularly joined comedians Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse on their river-based adventures across the UK. Ted entertained the audiences for more than a decade with his endearing nature and playful mischief.Now, as per the latest reports, the beloved pooch has passed away. The BBC confirmed that Ted passed away at the age of 13. The television show’s executive producer, Lisa Clark, and Ted’s owner informed fans of the impact the dog has had on the program and his fans.

Ted’s adventures on ‘Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing’

Ted joined Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse on their river trips on ‘Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing’ in 2020. The terrier mix became a cherished companion to both the hosts and viewers alike. Lisa Clark, who rescued Ted from a dog shelter in Surrey in 2013 when he was about six months old, opens up about the dog’s personality. “Ted is a much-loved family pet as well as a treasured companion to Paul and Bob on ‘Gone Fishing’,” she says.”He takes fame in his little stride and loves nothing better than messing around on the riverbanks, nicking Jammie Dodgers from Bob and bait from Paul.” Clark adds, “He will be sorely missed at home and on screen. We’ll never forget him. He is survived at home by Bo the briard.”

Bob Mortimer pays tribute to Ted

Bob Mortimer expressed his sadness over Ted’s passing in a heartfelt statement. “So very, very sad. Lovely Ted, the best companion and the greatest little chum. Going to miss him so much … and away, boss,” he said.

Paul Whitehouse remembers Ted from ‘Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing’

Paul Whitehouse also shared his memories of Ted in an emotional tribute. “Bye bye Ted, old friend. He isn’t a dog, he is a species all of his own. He’s gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you mate,” he said.

Ted’s final appearance and legacy

Ted makes his last appearance in the upcoming ninth series of ‘Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing’, which airs later this year. On the side, Ted published a memoir “A Pawtobiography” in 2024, which became a Sunday Times bestseller. The book provides readers with insight into Ted’s experiences on and off the television show and confirms his role as not only a supporting character but a true member of the ‘Gone Fishing’ cast.
