Ganesh Chaturthi began yesterday at celebrity astrologer, spiritual mentor and motivational speaker, Dr. Jai Madaan’s Jor Bagh residence with a celebration that was soulful, sustainable, and community-driven, setting a refreshing example for how India’s beloved festival can be both traditional and conscious.

The three-day festival opened with Ganesh Sthapna and Puja, where media professionals, cultural storytellers, and devotees gathered in an atmosphere of devotion, heritage, and inclusivity. In keeping with her eco-conscious spirit, Dr. Madaan has been actively championing an Eco-Friendly Visarjan Campaign, urging devotees to move away from river immersion that pollutes water bodies with plaster of Paris, paints, and chemicals.

Instead, she advocates for visarjan at home or in controlled environments using natural, biodegradable materials. “Every fruit, every vegetable in this décor carries a message that devotion can exist in complete harmony with nature. This celebration is proof that traditions become even more beautiful when celebrated sustainably,” said Dr. Madaan.

A Celebration in Harmony With Nature

This year’s celebration stood out for its innovative décor crafted entirely from fruits and vegetables. From corn and coconuts to dragon fruit, bananas, pumpkins, and gourds, every element symbolized abundance and prosperity while eliminating the use of plastic or artificial materials.

But the idea extended beyond aesthetic appeal after Ganesh Visarjan on August 29, the décor will be transformed into a Fruit Salad, distributed among street children and the underprivileged. “The true blessing of Lord Ganesha is in sharing. After the Visarjan, this décor of fruits and vegetables turns into a Fruit Salad, so that children on the streets receive both nourishment and joy from the festival,” added Dr. Madaan.

Ganesh Chaturthi: Inviting Prosperity Mindfully

Ganesh Chaturthi, celebrated across India with grandeur, is not just about rituals but also about inviting abundance and prosperity. Traditionally, the idol is placed in the northeast corner of the home, decorated with fresh flowers, rangoli, and lamps to create an auspicious space. Offerings of modaks, jaggery, coconuts, and fruits symbolize sweetness, nourishment, and the rewards of wisdom.

Dr. Madaan emphasizes that this prosperity is most meaningful when combined with mindful and compassionate practices. Distributing prasad among the underprivileged, planting trees, and choosing eco-friendly idols are ways families can align blessings with responsibility. “After all,” she notes, “the true worship of Lord Ganesha is not leaving behind waste, but leaving behind a legacy of love, sharing, and sustainability.”

A Festival of Faith, Gratitude, and Hope

Guests at Dr. Madaan’s gathering also received thoughtfully curated gifts from Siddhhi Arts, adding a warm, personal touch to the spiritual setting. As chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya!” filled the air, the celebration became more than just a ritual, it became a cultural expression of devotion, prosperity, and environmental consciousness.

Ganesh Chaturthi, at its heart, is about removing obstacles and inviting blessings. By celebrating with compassion for both people and the planet, Dr. Jai Madaan’s festival shows how India’s cherished traditions can be reimagined for a cleaner, greener future, one where devotion nurtures both nature and society.
