Here’s why the title of Salman’s Battle of Galwan is changed

Here's why the title of Salman Khan's ‘Battle of Galwan’ is changed to ‘Maatrubhumi’: 'Not an overnight decision'

Salman Khan retitled his war drama from ‘Battle of Galwan’ to ‘Maatrubhumi (Motherland): May War Rest In Peace’, stunning fans. Director Apoorva Lakhia tells Hindustan Times it wasn’t sudden—they had two titles. The film, starring Chitrangda Singh, highlights soldiers’ humanity amid 2020 India-China clash controversy.

Salman Khan dropped a bombshell on his fans this Monday, unveiling a powerful new title for his highly anticipated war drama. Ditching the original ‘Battle of Galwan’, the actor has relabeled it ‘Maatrubhumi’ (Motherland): May War Rest In Peace’, a poignant nod to patriotism and peace that’s already sparking buzz across social media.

Apoorva Lakhia on title change

In an interview with Hindustan Times, director Apoorva Lakhia explained the sudden title change wasn’t random. He said, “Changing the title may feel sudden to SK sir’s fans, but it was never an overnight decision. From the start, we had registered two titles- Battle of Galwan and Maatrubhumi. As we went through the journey of making our film, we realised it was never just about a battle. At its heart, the film is about humanity, empathy, and the silent battles our soldiers fight.” Apoorva further revealed that ‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace’ captures that emotion and sacrifice far more truthfully. It reflects the soul of the story, preserving humanity even in the face of conflict. There’s also a song in the film by the same name, and the love it has received from audiences made the title feel even more right.

Maatrubhumi’s India-China backdrop

‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace’, which also stars Chitrangda Singh, draws from the 2020 India-China border clash. It stirred controversy earlier this month when China’s state media, reacting to the teaser, accused it of “distorting facts” and stoking anti-China feelings.Salman Khan’s ‘Battle of Galwan’ retitled as ‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace’, release date yet to be announced
