Renowned director Ram Gopal Varma has officially announced the development of ‘Sarkar 4,’ with the script finalized and filming expected to kick off in mid-2026. The iconic duo of Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan will reprise their legendary roles in this eagerly awaited political thriller, making a triumphant return to the franchise after a decade-long hiatus. Ram Gopal Varma is currently in the news for his unabashed comments about how ‘Dhurandhar’ and its upcoming sequel will change the entire movie industry scenario. Amidst this, the filmmaker also made an announcement that would make every Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan fan happy. RGV said he is working on the fourth installment of the ‘Sarkar’ franchise.

Ram Gopal Varma reveals he is working on ‘Sarkar 4’

In an interview with the Mid-Day, Ram Gopal Varma shared that the writing for ‘Sarkar 4’ is done. He added, “I am starting the shoot in (mid-2026).” When the filmmaker was asked about the movie’s star cast, he said, “Both Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan will be a part of the film.” However, he didn’t reveal the names of any other cast members of the political thriller.RGV added that he wants to wrap up the film within a year. After that, he aims to work on the movie ‘Syndicate’, which he had announced earlier.

More about the ‘Sarkar’ franchise

The first installment, ‘Sarkar’, was released in theaters in 2005. Directed by RGV, it featured Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kay Kay Menon, Katrina Kaif, Tanishaa Mukerji, Supriya Pathak, Kota Srinivasa Rao, and Anupam Kher. The movie was said to be an unofficial remake of Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘The Godfather’. Also, there were rumors that the titular character played by Amitabh Bachchan was inspired by the late Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray. The next part, ‘Sarkar Raaj’, starred Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Supriya Pathak, Tanishaa, and Ravi Kale. It was released in June 2008.’Sarkar 3′ was made without Abhishek Bachchan. The film’s star cast included Amitabh Bachchan, Yami Gautam, Jackie Shroff, Manoj Bajpayee, Amit Sadh, Ronit Roy, and Parag Tyagi. The movie arrived in cinemas in May 2017.
