A 21-year-old woman was brutally murdered in a lodge in Karnataka’s Mysuru district, under mysterious circumstances on Saturday night.

The victim, Darshita, was found with severe facial injuries, including her lower jaw reportedly blown off in a blast, although the police have yet to confirm the exact cause of the explosion.

Darshita, who was married and originally from Gerasanahalli in Hunsur taluk, had checked into the lodge with her lover Siddaraju, 25, from Bettadapura village in Periyapatna, The Hindu reported.

The police have taken Siddaraju into custody and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of her death.

When police arrived, Darshita was found lying on the floor of the room, with visible and serious injuries to her face. Initial reports suggested a possible explosion, but the Mysuru Superintendent of Police, N. Vishnuvardhan, clarified that no explosives such as gelignite sticks or detonators were involved.

A team from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory collected evidence from the scene to aid the investigation.

The accused has claimed that the injuries were caused by an explosion linked to a mobile phone charger, but the police suspect that some form of powder or substance was used, which triggered the blast.

According to the report, no loud noise was reported by other guests in the building, which is located on the first floor.

Meanwhile, The Times of India reported that Siddaraju allegedly committed the crime after Darshita rejected his marriage proposal. Siddaraju works at a hardware shop, while Darshita lived with her parents in Hunsur. Her husband is based in Kerala.

The Saligrama police, supported by forensic experts, are working to identify the object or substance responsible for causing the fatal injuries. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
