Children are often fascinated by his playful stories, which carry moral lessons and cultural significance. Here are 10 fascinating stories about Lord Ganesha that offer valuable life lessons.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: 10 Inspiring Lord Ganesha Stories Kids Must Know

  1. Lord Ganesha’s Birth: Jaya and Vijaya, close attendants of Goddess Parvati, suggested that she should have a guard who obeyed only her. Initially, Parvati ignored them but later recognised the wisdom of their advice. She created a child from her body wax, brought him to life and thus little Ganesha was born.
  2. The Elephant Head: The following day, Parvati appointed Ganesha to guard the entrance. When Lord Shiva attempted to enter, Ganesha stopped him. A battle ensued, and Ganesha was killed. Seeing Parvati’s grief, Shiva revived him by placing an elephant’s head on his body, blessing him with divine powers.
  3. First Revered God: The Gods debated who should be worshipped first in all auspicious ceremonies. Shiva proposed a race around the universe. While the others circled the world, Ganesha simply circled Shiva and Parvati, declaring that they are the universe. Impressed, all the Gods declared him the God of beginnings.
  4. Lesson From The Cat: Ganesha once played roughly with a cat, which got hurt. Seeing the cat’s suffering as a reflection of his mother’s pain, he realised that all life is connected, and harming any living being causes sorrow in the universe.
  5. Ekdant Ganesha: Sage Parshuram visited Mount Kailash to seek Shiva’s blessings. Ganesha stopped him at the entrance, leading to a fight. Parshuram’s weapon broke Ganesha’s tusk, which he later gifted back. From that day onwards, Ganesha became known as Ekdant, “the one with a single tusk.”
  6. Moon’s Curse: Ganesha once frightened Brahma and the Moon laughed at him. Angered, Ganesha cursed the Moon to lose its brightness. Later, the Moon sought forgiveness and Ganesha modified the curse, saying that anyone looking at the Moon on Ganesh Chaturthi may face false accusations.
  7. Mouse As The Divine Vehicle: Krauncha, a demi-god, was cursed by Sage Vaamdeva to become a mouse. The mouse caused chaos at Sage Parashar’s hermitage. Ganesha captured the mouse with a mystical lasso, revealed its true form, forgave it and made it his divine vehicle, or vahana.
  8. Lord Vishnu’s Conch: When the demons Madhu-Kaitabh threatened the gods, Vishnu struggled to defeat them. Ganesha lent his powers to Vishnu, helping him win. In gratitude, Ganesha innocently asked Vishnu to blow his conch, bringing joy and laughter to all.
  9. Defeating Tripurasur: Tripurasur, a mighty demon, attacked the Gods. Sage Narad reminded Shiva to worship Ganesha first. Following this, all the Gods prayed to Ganesha, received his blessings and together defeated Tripurasur.
  10. Ganesha And The Kaveri River: During a severe drought, Sage Agastya received a sacred urn of water from Shiva. While carrying it, young Ganesha accidentally spilled the water at a spot, from which a river began to flow. This event marked the origin of the Kaveri river, guided by Ganesha’s wisdom.
