Ukadiche Modak

Also known as steamed modaks, it is one of the classic and highly favoured varieties of modak in Maharashtra’s Konkan district.

Ingredient

To make this sweet, fragrant modak, you just need rice flour, water, grated coconut, jaggery and cardamom powder.

How To Make

  1. Firstly, prepare a dough using rice flour and water.
  2. Then, create a sweet filling by mixing grated coconut, jaggery, and cardamom powder.
  3. Once prepared, take a small portion of the dough, flatten it, add the filling, and shape it into a modak.
  4. Steam the modaks until they are cooked, and serve them warm for the soft and sweet coconut-jaggery modaks.

Chocolate Modak

Are you someone with a sweet tooth? If yes, then chocolate modaks will definitely leave you drooling.

Ingredient

It is a modern twist on the traditional favourite and just requires chocolate chips, biscuit crumbs and condensed milk.

Fried Modak

Fried Modak, also known as Talniche Modak, offers a delightful contrast to the traditional steamed versions.

Ingredient And How To Make

  1. Start by making a dough using all-purpose flour and ghee.
  2. Allow it to rest for 30 minutes; meanwhile, create a filling of coconut and jaggery.
  3. Roll out small circles from the dough and fill with the mixture.
  4. Seal the edges nicely and deep-fry until they turn golden brown.
  5. And voila! Your crispy fried modak with the warm, sweet filling is ready to be savoured.

Sugar-Free Modak

If you want to keep it healthy this festival but still enjoy the traditional flavours of modak, sugar-free modak is the perfect choice. This recipe replaces traditional sugar with natural sweeteners like dates and figs.

Mawa Modak

Keep mawa (khoya), sugar, cardamom powder, and chopped nuts handy to make this mawa modak.

Ingredient And How To Make

Heat mawa in a pan over a low flame, add sugar and cardamom powder to it, and mix it well until the sugar dissolves. When it has thickened, let the sauce cool slightly.
