A man from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur has alleged that the security at Agra’s iconic Taj Mahal did not allow him to enter the monument premises as he was carrying a bag with a Hindu religious quote printed on it.

The tourist, who identified himself as Ashish, posted a video on social media and alleged he was not allowed to enter the premises after he put his bag in the security scanner, despite carrying an entry ticket.

He claimed the security did not allow him to move further because ‘Shri Ram’ was printed on his bag.

However, the security staff at the Taj Mahal said that the visitor was stopped at the entrance because the scans revealed he was carrying prohibited items in his bag.

They clarified that the denial had nothing to do with religious markings.

Commenting on the incident, senior commandant Vaibhav Dubey said prohibited items, including supari, tobacco, and a cutter, were found inside the bag during scanning. These are strictly banned inside the monument premises.

“He was given clear options to either deposit the bag in the cloakroom or leave the restricted items outside, but instead, he chose to record a video and give the matter a religious angle. This is unfortunate,” Dubey said.

Authorities reiterated that security measures at the Taj Mahal apply equally to all visitors, irrespective of religion or belief.
