‘Getting threats’: Sanjay Singh warns legal action over Ram remark row, says BJP spreading misinformation

‘Getting threats’: Sanjay Singh warns legal action over Ram remark row, says BJP spreading misinformation

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday said he is receiving threats following his statement in parliament that invoked the name of Lord Ram, saying that intimidation would not deter him from speaking out against corruption. In a post on X, Singh said he would not allow what he described as corruption to be carried out in the name of Lord Ram, regardless of the threats. “Threats have started coming in, but listen up with your ears wide open, BJP folks-kill me, chop me up, hang me from a gibbet if you must, but in the name of Lord Shri Ram, I won’t let you get away with corruption,” he said. The Rajya Sabha member also announced that he is preparing to take legal action against the BJP and the hate-mongering ‘X’ handles, alleging that the party has falsely attributed a statement by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to him and is spreading misinformation. Singh said he would also file a complaint with parliament’s privilege committee over what he called the misrepresentation of his speech and circulation of false claims on social media.“I’m preparing to take legal action against the BJP, which is falsely attributing Atal Ji’s statement to me and spreading lies, along with all those hate-mongering Twitter handles. I’ll also file a complaint with the Privilege Committee for spreading lies in the name of the speech I gave in Parliament,” Singh added. Earlier, Singh defended his remark – “Ram ke naam mein charitra hona chahiye, warna haram mein bhi Ram likha hua hai” – saying it was a reiteration of a quote used by Vajpayee himself. He said the former PM had made the statement in response to Ram Vilas Paswan’s assertion that his name contained ‘Ram’. Taking a swipe at the BJP, Singh said the party should hold a press conference and apologise for the statement made by Vajpayee if it found the quote objectionable.Earlier BJP hit out at Singh over the remark. Union minister Pralhad Joshi accused opposition parties of appeasement politics, saying, “Congress and its friendly parties have never had any devotion towards Lord Ram, his existence and Ram Mandir. They have always done appeasement politics. So, people are showing them their place…,” according to ANI.
