A crucial diplomatic engagement is set to take place in Evian, France, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting after a gap of nearly 16 months. The meeting marks their first one-on-one interaction since Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the United States in February 2019. Expected to begin around 6:00 PM IST, the talks will primarily focus on the proposed India-U.S. trade deal, developments in West Asia, and strengthening strategic ties between the two nations. Addressing the G7 summit, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s belief that lasting peace cannot be achieved through military action but through dialogue and diplomacy, reflecting the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.” In the presence of President Trump, he emphasized that the world today faces a crisis of trust rather than a shortage of resources. Citing former U.S. President Ronald Reagan’s phrase “Trust but Verify,” Modi called for building a reliable, rules-based global order for future generations.
