Developing: Trump Faces Setback as Allies Refuse Naval Support Amid Hormuz Strait Crisis

Seventeen days into escalating US-Iran tensions in the Middle East, President Donald Trump faces unexpected setbacks as several major nations refuse to send naval forces to the strategic Hormuz Strait. Initially, the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran expecting quick dominance, but Tehran has mounted a strong resistance, retaliating fiercely. Trump sought assistance from NATO allies and other global powers, requesting warships to secure the Strait and pressure Iran, yet Australia and Japan have declined direct military involvement. China, which relies on the Hormuz Strait for 90% of its oil imports, is also taking a cautious stance, aligning more closely with Iran’s interests. Meanwhile, approximately 1,000 ships, including 200 oil tankers, remain stranded in the Strait, escalating international concern over trade and energy security. Trump has openly warned NATO allies that their lack of cooperation will be noted, signaling diplomatic pressure on Europe and other partners. Tensions are further complicated as Israeli strikes targeted Iranian oil tankers despite US objections, highlighting fractured coordination among the US and its allies. Analysts warn the combination of Iranian resilience, reluctant allies, and stalled maritime traffic could trigger wider regional instability with global economic repercussions.
