India looked completely helpless at home, in Guwahati, against South Africa on Day 2 in their second Test match.
The visitors, continuing their first innings batting from the previous with 6 wickets down were carried to a mammoth total, courtesy of a solid innings from Senuran Muthusamy and Marco Jansen, the former scoring a ton, and the latter departing just short of the mark.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul at the crease for India, ending Day 2 on 9/0 and trailing by 480 runs. They have a massive job at their hands if they wish to have any chances of getting a result out of this encounter.
Muthusamy Nails Maiden Test Ton
When Senuran Muthusamy came out to bat for South Africa on Day 1, the match seemed evenly poised. India had down 6 wickets by Stumps, and it seemed like they would get to bat by Lunch on Day 2.
However, a masterclass from the Muthusamy appears to have taken the game away from the Rishabh Pant-led side. He faced a total 206 balls in his innins, scoring a hard-fought 109 runs.
The outing also featured a few fireworks, that is 10 fours and 2 sixes.
Early this morning, Ravindra Jadeja appealed for an LBW against him and got the decision in his favor. However, the DRS review showed the faintest of spikes when the ball passed Muthusamy’s gloves, giving him a lifeline.
He would use that opportunity to further extend the lead, and solidify Proteas’ position in the match.
Marco Jansen Misses Out
As if Muthusamy’s extended run hadn’t already taken a toll on the Indian bowlers, Marco Jansen’s onslaught further took the sting out of the attack.
He dealt in sixes and fours, hitting 6 boundaries and sending 7 flying over the rope.
Others from the lower order partnered with Jansen long enough for the South African fast bowler to reach the score of 93, at which point he guided one onto his stumps off Kuldeep Yadav, ending the first innings.
