- Bengaluru venue reassigned due to local operational issues.

- Qualifier 1 in Dharamshala, Eliminator/Qualifier 2 in New Chandigarh.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has officially released the schedule for the Indian Premier League 2026 playoffs. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the final will now take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31. This decision follows a sudden venue reassignment from Bengaluru, which was originally designated to host the season’s conclusion.
The shift was necessitated by local operational and logistical requirements that fell outside the established protocols of the board. As a special case, the postseason matches will be distributed across three distinct locations this year. These include the scenic HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala and the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh, ensuring a unique atmosphere for the final four.
Why Narendra Modi Stadium Is Preferred Over Chinnaswamy
“Bengaluru was originally designated to host the Final. However, owing to certain requirements from the local association and authorities that were beyond the scope of BCCI’s established guidelines and protocols, the venue has been shifted and reassigned,” the BCCI confirmed in a statement.
This reassignment ensures that the marquee event remains within the board’s operational control and logistical standards. While Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is a historic venue, the specific demands from local bodies made it impossible to move forward. Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium offers a massive seating capacity and has successfully hosted previous high-profile finals without similar administrative complications.

Eliminator: May 27 – New International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh
Qualifier 2: May 29 – New International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh
IPL 2026 Final: May 31 – Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
Professional Standards Maintained
The decision to move the final has sparked significant discussion within the sporting community. However, the board maintains that adhering to strict operational standards is paramount for the integrity of the event. The Narendra Modi Stadium remains a pinnacle of sporting infrastructure in India. This transition ensures a seamless broadcast and a high-quality experience for the spectators as the season reaches its climax.
New Chandigarh and Dharamshala represent growing hubs for domestic cricket and have been rewarded with these critical fixtures. The winner of the first qualifier will enjoy a direct path to the stadium in Gujarat. Meanwhile, teams finishing third and fourth must navigate a more difficult path through the Punjab-based venue.
