Karwa Chauth Puja Samagri List: Karwa Chauth, the sacred festival celebrated by married Hindu women for the long life and prosperity of their husbands, is drawing close. The day is marked with devotion and spiritual fervour, particularly in North Indian states. On this auspicious occasion, women observe a strict nirjala fast, which means they abstain from both food and water from sunrise to moonrise.

Celebrated annually during Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the Hindu month of Kartik, this festival will be marked on October 10 this year.

Women begin their fast before sunrise, after eating sargi (a pre-dawn meal) given by the mother-in-law. In the evening, women gather for the puja. They either draw Goddess Gaura and Chauth Mata on a wall or use a printed image for worship. These forms represent Goddess Parvati.

Women perform the Karwa Chauth Puja in groups and listen to or recite the Karwa Chauth Mahatmya Katha, highlighting the spiritual significance of the fast.

After the puja, the Karwa (Karak), filled with water or milk and containing coins or precious stones, is offered to a Brahmin or a Suhagan (married) woman as a form of daan (charity).

Once the moon rises, women offer prayers to Lord Chandra (Moon God) with the sieve ritual, seek his blessings, and then break their fast by drinking water from their husband’s hands.
