While many focus on cleaning the house every weekend, changing the bedsheet often takes a back seat. Many assume it only needs to be replaced when visible dirt or stains appear, but experts say this is a misconception. Cleanliness goes far beyond what meets the eye, as sweat, dead skin cells, and dust particles accumulate on the fabric every day.

Health experts recommend changing bedsheets at least once a week. In summer, when sweating is more common, doing so every three to four days is even more beneficial. This reduces the chances of bacteria and fungus thriving. Neglecting this simple habit can lead to skin problems such as rashes, allergies, and itching, as well as respiratory infections caused by dust and germs trapped in the fabric.

In winter, people often delay changing bedsheets due to less sweating, assuming they remain clean. However, dead skin cells continue to shed in all seasons, providing food for bacteria and dust mites. The risk of infections therefore increases if bedsheets are not changed regularly.

In households with small children or pets, the frequency should be higher, every two to three days, since food crumbs, pet hair, and dirt collect more quickly.

For those with asthma, allergies, or sensitive skin, extra caution is needed. Merely changing bedsheets is not enough; proper washing is equally important. Experts advise washing sheets in hot water with detergent and antiseptic liquid to destroy hidden bacteria and germs. Drying them in sunlight is best, as natural light works as a powerful disinfectant.

Regularly changing and properly cleaning bedsheets not only prevents infections and allergies but also ensures better hygiene and freshness at home.
